MELISSA MATHER
Fine Artist
Mather is a multidisciplinary artist who uses pencils and charcoal, as well as coloured pens and chalk in her drawings. With her paintings, she does not always use a paintbrush to apply the acrylics and mixed media on canvas or found surfaces. Hard lines and bold colours shout out in both her paintings and drawings. Expressionistic realism drawing; abstract maximalist imaginative painting. A music-inspired flow is found in high-contrasted lines of exaggerated features she conceptualizes from memory and photographs. Inspired by her love for people and poetry, she showcases the emotional and honest sides of life in her works. Collaborating often with like minded artists and musicians, she is very passionate about creating interactive evocative pieces, utilizing art in therapy as well as celebrating artistic experimentation and curiosity in community.
Mather went to school for Creative Advertising and Fine Arts at Centennial College. She has been a part of many artistic collectives such as StArt Youth Presenting Art (2010-2018) as class facilitator (visual arts), gallery and volunteer coordinator; Seeking Giants Collective (since 2021) as a musician and poet. She runs a small, very highly praised business called doorgirlvibe, providing unique and friendly hosting service to musicians, parties and GTA events big and small.
